Get in, Get It Done, Get it Over With & Get Out

Last Thursday, I mentioned that I used to teach a seminar called “Discovering Your Personality IQ” and fished for interest in following up with some highlights on the basic 4 personality types.

A number of years ago, I attended a CLASS Seminar and Training (Christian Leaders, Authors and Speakers) with Florence Littauer. She is a prolific author and wrote Personality Plus among other books.

The beauty of this system is in its simplicity. However, fitting humanity into just 4 categories is about as effective as putting all women into just 4 bra sizes; there will be a lot of “in between” situations!

Today, I introduce to you the “choleric” personality. This person is an extrovert and a leader. They are happiest when in control. They are very task oriented and if people's feelings get hurt on the way to the goal … oh well. They know how to get a job done. Typical jobs for this person would be lawyer, coach, career military or a business owner.

One of my co-workers has this personality. He is a trip, in my opinion. Very smart, very efficient and you can get along fine with him if you do what he says and let him be in charge. : )

My husband has a blending of this personality type in him as well, even though he is primarily a “melancholy”. (I prefer the name “analytical.”) That’s when it’s a really good thing that we’re opposites. It works!

I honestly can’t name one blogger that is primarily choleric. My theory is that they are too busy getting things done to do much social networking. There are probably a number of them with business-oriented blogs; they would have a mission and and be focused on accomplishing something specific.

A well-known public figure who is choleric is Hilary Clinton. If you want to name someone you know that fits the bill here, the forum is open!

I have a friend who is choleric. I love her dearly but there are a lot of times that I have to exercise a lot of patience with her. She is so *task* oriented that I have found friendships even fall into her *tasks*. She's a great sales person. She's a Director for Home Interiors Gifts and she loaned me that book.

I'm a melancholy (I prefer the name analytical too) choleric mix. I don't have to be in *control* but I do better when I'm in *charge*.

As you said, we can't really fit people into 4 personality boxes but can definetly get some insight into how God designed us. Two other books that have some great insight are "Cure for the Common Life" by Max Lucado, and "Now Discover your Strengths" by M Buckingham & D Clifton PhD.

God showed me so much through these three books. Loved the post!

Wanted to quickly tell you that because of snow and illness today (I stayed home from work) I have not yet sent your prize. I will try to do that this Saturday.

I love Florence and have gotten so much from her teachings. I could listen to her for hours on end...
I am NOT a choleric. My husband is. That can be good and bad as a pastor (the part about hurting people's feelings is bad - that's where I come in and soooooooth things over) BUT, he does get lots done and accomplished.
Thanks for sharing and I look forward to more!

My old boss fits in this catigory. I am one of the middle of the road types that keeps the choleric's from killing each other. They need me they just won't admit it.

Choleric personality type. That explains a lot with some that I know. Very interesting. Definitely the opposite of me. LOL

I laughed for 2 reasons:

1). I thought, that's my husband, as far as being task oriented and not worrying about people's feelings. Thank God he doesn't control me though.

2). He's an attorney.

A very interesting posting. Thanks.

I love stuff like this, it's so interesting! I would bet my husband is choleric with something else mixed in. I'll have to read the rest of your posts on this topic to figure out exactly what. I know I am not choleric - that's for sure!
