Details, details

I have a confession to make. The party that is planned for July (yesterday's post) is already feeling overwhelming to me. I have read with eagerness the great suggestions and comments you left.

I failed to mention one small detail that does play into all of this. Our first grandbaby is expected at exactly the same time as my Mom’s birthday. Hmmm. I started out thinking, “same city – no problem”. However it’s not my city. It’s 7 hours away. This could be a lot of events in one week.

With the party, I have the sense of a snowball gathering momentum and getting bigger and bigger.
I know that attention to detail is vital to a successful event. So I am pondering and considering before I go any farther.

I do love a party. I enjoy the planning, and I think I'm rather good at event planning. I even considered becoming a wedding planner after Uncommon Blonde’s wedding. The fact that it would mean working every weekend was a big deterrent. That, and dealing with kooky mothers of the brides. ; )

I’ll tell you, we pulled off an amazing, sacred event on a Southern Plantation and did it at a fraction of what you would think it cost us. Sigh. Now I’m in the mood for a party again. Oh fickle me.

Here’s a few photos from that awesome celebration 5 ½ years ago. Reminiscing about this special day is not the way to rein in my party plans!

That was a good party! I vote for less stress and more baby time but I might be a bit biased ;)

How beautiful! It sounds to me like God has put a desire in your heart girl. I'm not just talking about your mom's party. I think you should be praying about why He gave you such a desire and a skill. hmmmm?

On your mom's party. Don't stress. Pray and do whatever He says.

Oh gorgeous! I can see why it excites you to think about this and having another opportunity. It's a gift, and we all like to exercise our gifts because that's where we're most comfortable and true to who we are. I'm thinking you'll have a hard time concentrating on anything other than the baby? Maybe not. Hang in there. You'll figure it out.

Blogging is so therapeutic. When I read my baby's comment about having a baby.... it's clear that my concerns are valid. I'm thinking I'll use some of the awesome ideas suggested about scarpabooks and DVD's and make it a very special family party. I am at peace! Joy!

beautiful wedding! I think whatever you do will be amazing! your Mom will be so surprised...
I would suggest catering also, but you can be part of that every step of the way...which food, what to serve on etc...just not the pains of making it all. Especially with a baby coming!
I think the note is a wonderful idea and I would do just what you said...the only part I would add is to add your own paper to the note for them to write on!
Remember to enjoy it too!

I know lots of people that plan big birthday parties like that in the general vicinity of the birthday, but not necessarily on the same day... the added advantage is that your element of surprise will be greater! just remember to have fun with it all. and your mom will be totally fine with you giving priority to your grandbaby, I guarantee.

Wow that does sound great. I actually thought about being a wedding planner myself as people say I come up with some great ideas. It is on hold for now but if one thing changes I may go for it.
Don't worry, I am not planning on crashing your party although my brother lives down that way.

if it is a surprise, couldn't you do it early...it would be a real surprise then. It doesn't have to be on the birthday, right? might help your stress!

I am calling you when I have to plan a wedding!!

If you do it as a family party why not bring your mother up to your place under the guise of greeting the new baby and SURPRISE! It's all about her two! What a great way to celebrate an 80th with 4 generations!
