It seems that in the richest land in the world, the malaise of unfulfilled dreams is steadily eroding relationships and scarring people with the pain of a futile existence. They are lulled into a lie that their life has no purpose and they seek to find comfort in entertaining themselves while the hours and days slip by. Potential is wasted and the cost is incalculable.
I am seeing the fall-out from this plague in marriages. Two friends with seemingly happy homes, filled with children and laughter, are dealing with separation and discussions of divorce. I honestly believe that unfulfilled dreams play a large role in the issues of at least one of the couples. Unhappiness, discontent, blame - and then the story takes a tragic turn as fulfillment is sought in the wrong places.
We’re designed with a purpose and thrive with a quest in our heart and passion in our steps.

I love how you so frequently begin your posts with a quote. Where do you find them?
This one in particular speaks to me as a big picture thinker. I love the idea of casting a vision that grabs the right people and urges them to bring their own unique contribution to the group.
I believe you are exactly right. Broken dreams make sick hearts which people misdirect into other areas of their lives. Very true. But G-d! I've missed reading your blog but I'm back with new direction and G-d has renewed my purpose. I'm very excited.

I agree with the sentient, it is important to feel free to pursue ones dreams. Broken dreams are a part of life and had to be accepted, but noting stops us from dreaming on, creating new dreams for our future.;)
For some reason that song always makes me sad. So many people are going through life these days with no purpose and getting into trouble. I was one of them many years ago.
The thing is, we are created in the image of God, by God for his pleasure and glory. Our purpose is to glorify him in all we do. Period. It isn't like we have a specific one purpose thing, like a job or task that is the true purpose. God does give each person specific talents etc. I'm just saying the real purpose of every life is to give glory to the Lord in everything you do. In your marriage- seek to glorify Christ in the way you treat your spouse, in the way you put him/her before yourself etc. ; in your job, glorify Him through the way you treat others, what you say. Be ready to share the Hope you have in Jesus and then share it!
Okay, you struck a chord. I think we all (including myself) are just a little too selfish for our own good. I feel so sad when I hear about marriages breaking up, "my dreams are unfulfilled", "he doesn't meet my needs" etc. They've missed it. Fulfill someone else's dream. Meet someone else's need.
Okay. I better stop. I'm probably in so much trouble already.

Sorry to hear about your friends...
I think one thing that I personally have discovered is that though we know that we all change as we get older, we sometimes do not realize the extent of how much one can change. I am not talking about changing someone else to be the image you expect them to be, but rather, the changes within yourself that occur naturally.
What has worked for us is to keep an open communication and really embrace the goodness of change...because it will happen. We travel along the road together, even if we are not always on the same pathway, we are running along the same current.
