Shopping Cart Voyeur

I like to shop at Sam’s Club, which is rather surprising considering we are down from 5 to 2 people in the house. I like to eye other people’s carts to see what they buy and have discovered some good deals that way. I have no problem doing this as the social gene I got from my mom is quite dominant.

I learned over at Works for me Wednesday about Alice, an online shopping service that's a discount buying club without leaving your house. Interesting. There's a give-away for $25 on the WWW post today.

But back to Sam's- I buy almonds now after seeing them in someone’s cart at check-out.
These other finds are the result of sampling. I’ve been making chicken salad with this canned chicken and it’s really good and wonderfully easy. $8 for 5 cans!
This is my mom’s chicken salad recipe:

Simply Divine Chicken Salad
Chicken, cut in bite size pieces
Enough mayo for your taste
Lots of red seedless grapes, cut in small pieces
Chopped pecans
Salt & pepper

I used to despise recipes like this, but sometimes it’s all you get. It’s delicious.
I put it on these Pita Bites from Sam’s and they are the perfect accompaniment. For dessert, try the Atlanta Bread company mini-pumpkin muffins that just came in for the fall. They are really delicious.

This would be a great luncheon or brunch menu if you’re having your friends over anytime soon and are feeling lazy or just too busy efficient.

After I wrote this post, I saw that the theme today at WWW is cleaning tips. So my tip is to keep disenfectant wipes in your car. It keeps your car clean and always take one in with you to the store to clean the shopping cart handle. This is much safer than the flu vaccine. : ) You're welcome.

CLICK HERE for ideas for a really clean house. Of course, this knowledge in my hands might be as effective as watching an exercise video while eating ice cream. My favorite tip over there is to "hire someone".

LOL! I love you and your blogs! Also, the idea of using canned chicken is a great idea. I had not thought of that. I usually go and get a rotisserie chicken and pull it off the bone... but canned is much easier!
Also, your mama's recipe is just like mine! I could eat tons of it - and probably have in my lifetime.
Great idea about the wipes, too.
Thanks for all your help today!
Blessings

Hi, I came over by following WWW. I always like other Grammy's videos. You are much younger I am sure (o:

I make chiken salad with Sam's canned chicken too. I add apple pieces and grapes. I toy around with others add ons like dried cranberries, chopped celery, walnuts. I use FF miricle whip and make a huge bowl. Last for my lunches all week
Now about those little pitas... do they freeze well?

haha! I can never get out of Sam's Club without spending at least a hundred dollars! The diapers and formula, paper towels and Quilted Northern account for a lot of it, but there's a certain amount of voyeurism that I indulge in also.

Generally I am also a whole-chicken deboner, too. Their whole chickens are a great price. But I bet it wouldn't hurt to have some of those cans in my pantry for emergencies.

p.s. I like the "hire help" option also, but have mostly just given up on having a clean house for the next 10 years. I hear that someday the mess-making machines will be grown and gone and I will be sad they aren't around to make messes anymore...

Yes, I try to shop at Costco very much the same way you describe here. But last time I went there, I slid off the deep end and spent $300, coming home with only toilet paper, paper toweling, shampoo that I do not like and some sausage. I need to be very organized when I go to Costco and keep my eyes on the one prize I went in for- you know what I mean?

I was shopping at BJ's in the fond delusion that I was saving money. But basically I was paying "less" in order to store MORE at home; ugh. I've decided to let the STORE store it and just get what I want on sale in the "normal" stores. It's working so far. (I like to see what others are getting, too!)

That's my mom's chicken salad recipe, too (although my mom also adds celery). Sometimes, I'll kick it up with a little spicy mustard!

We take the club membership when there's a deal on the membership. There's something about stocking up on items you use all the time, like those paper products. I missed the club when we didn't have our membership for those kinds of purchases. I can easily get into trouble, however, if I buy what I see--YIKES! Lists are good!!

LOL! You're funny Beverly. My question is, just how much is Sams paying you for this add. LOL! Your chicken salad recipe sounds pretty good. You make it and I'll bring the coffee, tea, or your beverage of choice. I'm feeling efficient. :D

Love you!
